Why shouldn't I repeatedly power-cycle a non-communicating spectrometer?
When SuperQ cannot connect or the communication bus locks up, cycling the main breaker forces unregulated power transients into the Single Board Computer (SBC) and NIOS controller. In our field experience, repeated cycling frequently corrupts on-board flash calibration parameters and risks filament shock in the X-ray tube.
Does RDS offer component-level repair or only board replacement?
Unlike the OEM—who routinely quotes total assembly replacements with 8–12 week backorders—RDS specializes in direct component-level repair and firmware unbricking for SBCs, NIOS boards, and HT generator controllers. We also maintain tested exchange boards ready for same-day courier shipment.
What information should I have ready when calling RDS for triage?
To help our engineers immediately diagnose your fault, please note: (1) your exact instrument model (e.g., Axios 1kW/4kW, Zetium, X'Pert PRO), (2) the exact text of the software error or front-panel LED pattern, and (3) whether the fault occurred at idle, during kV ramp-up, or during sample change.
Are replacement parts covered under warranty?
